Whilst for most of us being told we have a heat wave on the way is idyllic – summer is coming, flowers are blooming, the grass is growing. But for many people with allergies this can have a massive impact on theirs lives – excessive sneezing, a runny nose and itchy eyes. This along with every day allergens can make this time of year unbearable.
Even though we have our windows and doors open more in the summer months, allergens can make their way inside any home even on peoples shoes and clothes. You can keep your home spotless but as most allergens are invisible they can find their way in. Gravity pulls them to the floor.
They can become trapped in the carpet fibres, thus reducing the amount circulating around in the air, but just stepping on the carpet alone can release them back into the air.
Allergy and asthma suffers can have carpets. Stick with man made carpets. The blends are constructed out of lab fibres, which repels allergens. Avoid wool as mould can thrive in it. Always go for short twist pile carpets, thus fewer places for allergens.
Regular vacuuming is very important, this may seem obvious but maintaining a clean home does have positive effects on your mental and physical health. Contrary to popular belief carpets can improve air quality and if vacuumed regularly it removes traces of dirt, dust mites and allergens, thus reducing the amount of allergens in the home.
Annual deep cleaning of your carpet is recommended – not only does it keep your carpet looking like new, it can reduce or completely remove all allergens.
